Why dogs and cats are souls & not
property
We have all endured
the pain when a family member dies and we all get together to express the
sorrow. The fact we cry when people die is because we know that people have
souls and that makes them special to us and to those who love them. There is an expression we often use that we sometimes take
for granted. It goes like this - “The Eyes are the window to your soul” –
William Shakespeare.
Let’s face it, when we look into the eyes of your puppy or
kitten, you see a soul. Your mind and heart is filled with emotions that equal
any feeling for a human being as we take to the heart everything that happens
from the moment you accept his soul into your life. We have all done it, we
have all loved an animal and treated it like it is or was one of our own.Treat it as property and you may not feel the connection but
regardless how you treat it, it will love you regardless. This is why some
animals are not property but rather they are living souls. They feel pain and
emotion just like us. Whether or not you accept this determines how you treat
it.
Why do we take a sick dog or cat to the vet and ask them to
heal it and make it better? We don’t want our pets to suffer and if they are in
pain we treat them like we would our own. We seek the help we need to make them
better.
My dog has a soul. My puppy is a living soul. She feels love
and she feels pain. She breathes the same air as I do and she shares the same
space as I sleep or move around. She is part of me. She does not belong to me
as a product or property but rather as a partner in life with a soul.
Looking into their eyes you can see their emotions. They act
and react to your voice, your hands and your movements like any other living
soul. Why would we deny them the love and care we give other living souls? When
it is all said and done, they are equal to the task of loving you and ask not
much in return except to give them love and care to keep them healthy and safe.
We as a society are passing laws to prevent abuse or
torture. We as a human race accept and recognize their value as our partners in
life. They have animal rights but not human rights and when you equate an
animal to a human being we are equating it to a rock or computer or anything
that is not living perhaps we are now at the point recognizing they too have
souls.
I wrote this to bring awareness to the harm done to animals
by people who feel they are mere product or a piece of property they can do
what they want or cast it away like a broken toy. Take a moment out of your
life and look into their eyes and you will see that unlike anything else you
can buy out there, this beautiful creature has a soul. Let us not forget an
animal, any animal big or small, domestic or wild, has a right to live without
pain, suffering and torture and we should respect their rights as much as we do
our own.
