Lady in Red

Lady in Red

She never took the train and a taxi was not allowed
Her blonde hair was flowing with her head above the clouds
Her jealous boyfriend wanted to keep her sound and safe
So he hired someone to walk with her, day and nite or whenever she was awake

He was crazy about her, he wanted said he wanted to marry her someday
But the greed and nightclubs he owned, always seemed to get into the way
A business man with money and lots of power to boot
Every day the marked goods were rolling, he got his share of the loot

A member of the underground family of sin and crime
He sold cigarettes, anything in vending machines to make a dime
A boss of many who carried guns hidden by their side
He had a mean streak temper and had a green eyed monster he could never hide

So when he told me he wanted me to walk along with her and be her side
I knew he was telling me to keep her safe and protect his future bride
To save his prize and keep her away from other men
The trouble was he played the part, as he strayed often with his other heart

A pretty woman, a model and a classy lady in disguise
She knew exactly what he wanted and to that she was wise
So she too played the part to keep the money rolling
So she went fishing and kept the lines trolling

She was a trophy, a lady in red
She ran the nightclubs when disco was hot and rock and roll was dead
The disco lights, the dance floor and the crazy crowds
Were hard to control as they often got drunk and loud

So every day, I would pick her up and walk her to the car
The ride from her place to the club was not very far
And when she got there, I was to keep an eye on her
To be sure that she was safe and nobody tried to bother her

So every night I took her home and dropped her off safely
I defended her honor, her body and soul bravely
He paid me to protect her from friend and foe
But there wasn’t a place she would go, that I didn’t know

She was the lady in red, a beauty that was heavenly sent
And who on a nightly call, my services she could depend
But in all reality, she was this fake Barbie doll
Who was the concubine at the beckoned call

Of the man who wore a three piece suit
And who hired me to walk her home so nobody else could be there
He offered me investments and bonuses to remain loyal and treat her
Like a queen, a princess or a movie star
Just as long as I was with her and tell him where we are
