Today’s culture has changed. Leadership styles have been
questionable and words are often perceived to be words of arrogance rather than
confidence. Most important, the bar of
credibility has been lowered to the point there is hardly any credibility left
in the person’s speech, promises or rhetoric when running or holding a public
office.
There is so much arrogance in government today, there is no fear
of being questioned or held accountable for what they do or say anymore. There is
no fear of people criticizing you or your policies as many flaws are being
overlooked just because you are managing to hold the line on the pre-determined
agendas of today’s priorities and playing the manipulation game to its end.
Yesteryear, you would be verbally and publically flogged,
terminated, disbarred, indicted or re-called from public office, if you broke
your promises or failed to meet your campaign speechmaking dialogue. Today, the
opposite is true as there is a high tolerance to mismanagement, unethical
conduct, and other character flaws that used to get you fired, sought out and
punished for.
Even the media won’t confront the liars and multiple false
prophets who claim to do the things that need to be done but shun away from
actually doing what needs to be done for political gain. There are no risks and
no dire consequences for lying and arrogance only grows when the public ignorance
shows the reality of forgiveness and excessive tolerance to such misconduct.
The truth be told, this makes mediocre government officials
great as they are never called on the carpet and marks those who meet the
standard even greater guaranteeing them a reelection or reappointment to
another term of public service. Most public officials do a lousy job of working
for the people. People get sucked into the public relations game that focuses
on distractions and deflections ensuring the people will soon forget this
scandal or any other problem addressed and soon forgotten.
Some are aware while others don’t care in spite of the repercussions
of bad government. Arrogance, ignorance and sheer incompetence is rampant and
nobody cares. The moral compass is broken and nobody takes heed to the warnings
of video, news stories and other venues of facts presented to the public as the
truth has been hidden, changed or distorted.
There is no honor any longer and there are plenty of mistakes
happening daily. Some are not mistakes. They are deliberate efforts to break
the law. Today it’s more about talent to
lie than to possess integrity and tell the truth.
The word respect has been politically altered to give a
meaningless impact to the challenge of standards of performance once all public
officials were held to at a higher bar. It
is no longer disrespectful to tell a lie and cover up the truth. At least, that’s
the rule unless you get caught.
Public officials throw around their weight and egos and don’t
fear to get into other’s way. You are not held accountable for your faults but
rather praised for overcoming the challenge and creating a perception of being
a reformer or game changer. They learn how to reverse the finger pointing and
simply point the finger at the opposite direction.
There is no personal responsibility. It is now acceptable to
blame someone or something else even if it was within your own span of control.
Denials and rebuttals are quickly and hastily thrown around to distract from
the issues at hand and give the matter no credibility at all as they are either
whistleblowers, disgruntled employees or just ignorant people who rant and
raves for whatever reasons and randomly devaluated and marginalized.
Instead of having skills, experience and good work habits, you
are rated for your ability to please your audience or constituents, how you
answer the questions without answering them and working your charm and charisma
to win over the crowds. Whatever the topic, a politically correct well written public
announcement pleases the people who will soon forget this moment and many more
like these.
