Chapter Four

The news of these series of perfectly aligned oceanic storms generated by the perpetual and still powerful El Niño in the Pacific Ocean, were creating surging mini-like tsunami waves comparable white foamy ripples of savagely powerful swells.

Lashing out at the now battered and damaged shoreline with absolute brutal force, the destruction was intolerable for Mother Nature to heal.

High waves of stubborn massive ocean water made frothy twenty foot high white breaker waves creating a violent backlash of foam-covered water splashing and trashing its hurricane force waves against freshly eroding beach front consuming everything in sight on the beach or further inland.

What was once a dormant dry and a long spanned drought season has turned into an agonizing nightmare, that could best be described as a gross contamination of the soil and pollution of the landscape, causing deteriorating eco conditions and making it hard to travel freely and unrestricted without being stopped by the cops.

Even four wheel drive vehicles had difficulties, especially going up the inclines of any accessible mountain roads sloped with steep grades and covered with a massive layer of red clay mud that stuck to the tires, and if traction was lost, it would leave the driver and occupants helpless and stranded on foot somewhere in the dense and water-logged woods.

Having wondered how Grace and Heather ended up near the bunker a few weeks ago, Carl had asked her how she managed to escape death and find a way out of her dilemma of being trapped in the swirling flashflood waters when her SUV was carried by the swift currents to a spot near his road just off the freeway about a mile from his shelter.

She mentioned to him how a strange man, had spotted her trapped and stuck in the deep mud and helped her get out of her partially entombed and almost submerged SUV surrounded by in the thick sludge.

Trying to open the door unsuccessfully, he decided to rescue her by breaking her passenger window and helping her and Heather crawl out of the car, pulling them out by their arms and setting them free.

He told her he too was caught in the swift waters but managed to get up on a high spot that gave him a chance to escape his truck he was driving before it was caught by another wave of surging flood waters and carried further downstream leaving him on foot. It seemed the water came from the top of the mountain in a swell that was like an avalanche roaring downhill at high speed.

Grace told her horror story of this man, who called himself Neil, and how he was telling her to follow him up to the higher ground and that he knew of a cabin that was located up there where they could stay to wait out the storm but they got separated and then, while looking for him, Heather and her got further lost in the deeper parts of the woods when Carl found them.

She didn’t know him well enough to trust him but said she was so desperate to get Heather out of the drenching rain and to a safe place, she followed him before they got separated in the darkness.

Yelling and shouting out his name, she was almost ready to give up on staying alive before Carl came out to rescue Heather and her stranded there under that tree trying to keep the rain from pelting them with what she thought was hail.

It’s been over two weeks now since the storms began and in the meantime the sun  has not come out to dry out any of the flooded landscapes that had turned into marshlands and lakes large enough to go boating on with full sized yachts.

The falling seasonal temperatures were even colder than before because of the lack of sunlight in the air. Between the disappearing now underwater beaches and the major inland deluge of localized heavy rains and unyielding torrential showers, this storm covered hundreds of square miles; the landscape was saturated and consumed with dead bodies waiting to be collected by the military that has declared a national state of emergency and placed Southern California under martial law.

California was deeply exposed to severe flood tolerances that impacted nature as well as its densely populated cities and metro areas in many diverse ways that were hard to understand by anyone seeing the destruction and now the El Nino has captured the entire season of fall and likely leak into winter, the growing seasons will be harmful to the environment and people trying to survive in many ways.

Instead of the long awaited rainwater producing growth, these high waters have cut off the oxygen to many trees, plants and animals now underwater and killing many species. Everything from the city to the valleys was submerged in water or water-logged so badly, it suffocated and died.

More than anything else, it was the depth of the water, the temperatures and lack of oxygen that created the unnatural crisis of tolerating the rain waters and finding shallow waters to travel through. Basically speaking, it was an unreal disaster that would take generations to undo or turn around.

Drinking water was critical as the ground water was now contaminated with chemicals soaked into the soil by the constant flooding and the mixture of human waste coming out of the city and the concentrated amount of salty sea water was killing all that could not resist their corrosive elements.

In the meantime, the personal relationship between Carl and Grace has become a little more complicated than it had been before they became intimately involved and now looking after each other with Heather watching, seeing her mom grow closer and closer to this man she hardly knew.

Just because they kept their sexual relationships hidden from Heather, it was clear to see they still had an exceptional desirability towards each other.

Only a blind man could see the sensuality and caring emotions displayed between each other, as Grace would lay down with Heather at night and remain there with her, cover her up to keep her warm, and waited until she had fallen asleep before joining Carl for their almost predestined nocturnal carnal pleasures.

Making sure Heather was out, she would soundlessly sneak over to Carl’s bedroom and spent the rest of the night in his arms after they had ardently entwined themselves in a moment of lust and fleshly desires, wrapping themselves up in a passionate interlude of love making that was off the grid as far as they were concerned.

Waiting for Grace, Carl had turned the television on to watch the current events around the world. The United States government was still at war in the Middle East where Carl served four years in a ranger outfit helping train the Iraqi army after they were overrun by ISIS and other terrorists groups sponsored by other country’s domination plans.

He remembered those days well and drew much of his subsistence experience for the necessary survival instincts needed to handle this unorthodox catastrophe. Carl was teaching Grace how to survive had turned her into a confident survivor and a battle ready warrior when they faced the zombies down below in the valley.

Zombies were seen roaming all parts of the world that included Australia, Europe and main parts of China and Hong Kong. Every region occupied by zombies had military troops deployed to fight them and contain their destruction.

All in all, this fight was not going too well as the undead were millions in numbers and the troops were spread so thin by wars, there were hardly enough to go around and protect the larger cities leaving the rural areas or the countryside exposed without protection and vulnerable if zombies figured it out that the people they were looking for had escaped and headed for the farms and other open spaces.

The news channels out of San Diego, Los Angeles and even as far inland as Riverside and Palm Springs were reporting heavy flooding as the storm remained stationary and dumping the wet deluging burdens loaded in the skies onto the already saturated ground.

Calling it a super low pressure area, it was tearing up the countryside and killing people, animals and starving those who had no supplies to keep them alive. Bottled water was now a commodity that brought a good price or kept for ransom.

Lagoons were overflowing their man made dams and retaining walls. Rivers were swollen and raging from north to south and east to west. There was no obstacle the powerful waters couldn’t reach with time on its side.

Bridges were collapsing after and during the heavy rains. Interstates 5, 10, 15 and 40 were experiencing serious stress cracks in their overhead bridges and some sections of the highways, some over 40 feet in length of solid concrete, had been washed away by the floodwaters.

The storm was causing severe soil erosion and washing away the land, the concrete walls as sides of hills and mountains came tumbling down onto the valley covering houses and major streets with mud and debris. Most of these main highways were being closed to general traffic giving allowances to law enforcement and military traffic only.

According to the California Highway Patrol. At least fifteen persons were transported to a Palm Springs hospital after being trapped in a mass pile up of vehicle during a serious traffic accident.

Officials were concerned that the eastbound and westbound lanes may have been structurally undermined by the flooding, and the freeway will remain closed until further notice. The headline read like this, “Interstate 10 is closed completely," spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation, told the Associated Press.

They also planned to inspect dozen of large spanned bridges across the large swath of Southern California where the “remnants of a tropical storm dumped unusual El Nino related deluges,” the AP reported.

"This is a fascinating situation on so many levels. Against a backdrop of climate change, with the global atmosphere setting heat records month after month, we have an El Niño warming the waters of the tropical eastern Pacific.

What was misleading in these reports were key words like “remnants of the El Nino” as there was no relief in sight and there were no remnants but only a series of solidly lined up storms ready to pounce on Southern California for an undetermined amount of time and atmospheric energy.

On top of what Carl had heard on the NOAA weather channel, he had heard “the waters off the U.S. West Coast are also far warmer than average, and we have a mass of tropical storms moving farther north and closer to the Mexican coast than most others in the historical record this early in the season," said weather.com senior meteorologist Nick Wiltgen

Carl knew that as soon as the flood waters receded or withdrew to lower levels, the walkers would extend their territories and seek more victims left behind and trapped by the high waters. There was an inevitable showdown coming, a sort of high noon scenario between the zombies and the mortals who were hiding to stay alive.

Whether this was going to be a showdown or a meltdown of the human race depended on preparation and planning on how to beat the zombies at their own game. These walkers were merely wandering without a destination seeking whoever they may encounter. However, up to this point, they had not chosen to dwell outside the city making the bunker a very safe place to be.

Finding his secure sanctuary well-built and soundly constructed, the fear was not the penetration of zombies or undead but rather carelessness and not being aware of the presence of these blood sucking, blood curling creeps.

Since he learned in survival techniques the importance of water, he had an osmosis reversed water system installed that filtered the water, any kind of water and purified it to be safe to drink. Having his own filtering system had given them the gift of life as no man can live without water.

Carl knew there were hundreds, if not thousands of these decaying stiff and smelly corpses roaming, strutting rigidly down the streets whether they were under water or not.

They have been down the valley roads now for at least six trips and every trip they took they saw no survivors but plenty of rotted and decomposed walkers caught in the water or mud and slowly moving without showing any life in them.

Even the water-bloated undead seemed to have adapted to the high waters and tread through the lower levels without much difficulties as their slow deliberate clawing manner to seek and find victims was never ending as they seemed to never quit trying to find a victim.

Dropping them with head shots was easier said than done. The proximity and timing was critical to get that clean shot. Heather was having nightmares of the day they all three encountered the first horde of walkers and their clawing method of clinging onto the truck trying to trap them and eat their preferred prey alive.

Surely, those events of that first time encounter damaged her to some degree and put a severe shock into her that had to be dealt with at a later time. Time will tell.

Using the bunker gave Carl, Grace and the kid a safe place to stay. They knew it was a kill or be killed chaotic situation. There was no morality issue here; either they live or the die. It was that simple and there was no need to agonize about how it got done.

Getting used to the corpses and their grotesque  manner of existence included mutated monstrosities that demonstrated an unusual amount of resilience even with their flesh torn into open wounds and what used to be vital organs hanging or exposed as these walker carry on until they find something to eat or bite or their brain is destroyed.

Dealing with this horror was unique and difficult both mentally and physically. Sleep deprivation caused poor judgments and fatigue while the mind goes into overtime during the night when they are sleeping creating vivid nightmares that causes both of them wake up during the middle of the night in a cold cold sweat.

Needless to say, there were some moments where both were jittery and nervous dealing with the adversity and each other.

Making odd hour runs during the early daylight hours to the abandoned food stores, to bank and scavenge supplies, they needed to survive became harder and more pessimistic in success and gatherings.

Most of the stores have been looted and plundered by other survivors trying to keep themselves alive. Strangely, these survivors, whoever they were, kept out of sight and remained unseen by Carl and Grace giving them an idea there were other sheltered bunkers out there somewhere that kept other non-infected beings safe from the zombies.

The danger of water bloated walkers had increased with the floods as they could pop up unexpectedly from anywhere there was at least three feet of murky or darkened black colored water.

Flooded basements of the stores Carl and Grace scavenged for vital supplies were often infiltrated or hidden just before they exposed their disintegrating and decomposing bodies to the two. They had discovered that the basements were often used as storage areas for items to be restocked when the shelves were empty.

Fearing being bit at the legs or ankles by such creatures was real and Carl had wrapped leggings on him and Grace when they walked through flooded stores or basements where they located the necessities they needed to stay alive.

These wrapped leggings was a trick Carl learned in the Army ranger unit when they were conducting real jungle warfare training in Panama and exposed to venomous snakes day and night. He knew that protecting their legs would give them a chance to avoid getting bit by these half-drowned walkers. It was a good idea and strategy cause it seemed to be working.

Taking a tour of any area filled or occupied by surreal almost invincible walkers was dangerous. Their decomposing bodies were everywhere and some were positioned in a motionless state but not quite out of commission as they still had the ability to attack and bite their victim.

Grace was telling Carl this zombie apocalypse was lasting longer than she expected. Having seen zombies walk in the mud without having legs was both spooky and dreadful. How they kept moving through the mud with their legs disconnected to their bodies was unthinkable and unimaginable for a rational person to understand.

Staying away from the banks of the rushing rivers, the swollen creeks and the mud filled roads that were almost impassable even with the four wheel drive super duty F250 dually, the two hand managed to work out a system that kept Heather safe when they went to town and because the little girl was not with them anymore they were safer.

Grace had agreed that she was safer inside the bunker and kept her occupied and playing in her bedroom until they got back, giving them the ability to search more places and find more supplies than others who had their kids tag along and also subject to attacks by child zombies looking for their own sized victims.

Aggressive and more determined than some adult zombies, they were relentless in finding someone their own size to eat or bite and infect them with the virus. Staying away from the bunker had its own perils thus they did agree to set a time limit of their absence, as they worried that being left alone would also be traumatic for her and cause her to get restless and wander out of the room to other areas of the cavern.

Agreeing it wasn’t the ideal situation or set-up, they had hoped that somewhere along the way they would find some survivors who could help them with watching Heather during such excursions.

It wasn’t one of Carl’s best case scenarios but in the long run, an extra hand who wasn’t infected could make a big difference in the end. Perhaps fate would deliver such a blessings in the near future as the rains kept falling down and it looked like the rains weren’t going to stop anytime soon.

Amazing Grace - the El Nino Legent - (sexually explicit writings use caution) Part V

Amazing Grace –

The El Niño Legend

Part V

It was time for Carl to take Heather to the hollow and do some target practice with a Glock handgun that seemed to fit in her hand real well and didn’t feel too bulky or heavy for her to handle under an emergency. The worst fear of an apocalypse survivor is an ambush by an undead or zombie. The mere mention of such an outbreak or spell is cause enough to panic and forget what you have been trained to do when under attack.

Fitting the precision machined handgun in her hand, Carl stood closely behind her and taught her how to draw her weapon from the hip holster he had put on her waist with a belt holding it in a position that was conveniently put on the right side and easy to reach at.

The leather holster was just right as it secured the weapon tight enough to be able to run if she had to or draw it with lightning speed if she had to use it. Her adaptability to wearing a gun was obvious and was a shot in the arm for Carl that he was doing the right thing by teaching her how to shoot and defend herself.

They did at least two dozen dry fires practicing the draw and aiming the gun with the front sight only on the target he had put up between a stack of bales he had saved for just such purposes. This was his own man-made indoor firing range where he practiced if he wanted to keep his proficiency level up to the optimum required to survive.

Although he was slightly distracted by the smell of honey, he focused on teaching her the main principles of good gun control and aiming the weapon quickly lining up only the front sight instead of working to align the front and back for better accuracy.

He rationed to Heather that most of her shots, if they were indeed needed, were from ten yards or closer, making just pointing the weapon more feasible than taking the time to align the front and rear sights which could take too much time if an undead is attacking her up close.

Then he worked with her on the trigger pull teaching her to pull the trigger gently and not forcefully as the more force is used the more the gun will miss what she was pointing at. It was a matter of learning how to draw back the trigger with a gentle pull and going back straight rather than a rough yank that would cause the weapon to move and making it miss its target in some cases.

Finally, he was ready to teach her how to shoot with live rounds. He had picked up a Glock 9mm so the rounds were not as loud or the recoil would not be as bad as the heavier rounds he had in his personal armory in the secret closet.

Loading ten roads inside the fifteen round capacity magazines, he gave Heather an empty one so she could copy loading it the way Carl was showing her. One round at a time, she loaded all ten and tapped the end of the magazine to settle the rounds inside the spring loaded case.

After practicing loading and reloading a few times, it was time to shoot for reals. No more teaching, no more hesitating as Carl put up a dark figured out line on the silhouette target in the makeshift firing range that had bales as a backstop for the bullets fired.

Carl asked her if she was ready and she said, “I am as ready as I will ever be. Just give me a minute to catch my breath and then we can get it started.”

Carl waited for about thirty seconds and told her to draw the weapon out of the holster and bring it smoothly up to eye level focusing on the front sight and putting the front tab of the sight on the center of the target.

She nodded she was ready to fire and squeezed the first round off causing it to hit the bale of hay on the right side. She had yanked the trigger and twisted her wrist too much and let the gun move off the target and twist to the right. Finger out of the trigger guard she put the weapon back in the holster to practice the draw again.

Carl reassured her that if she gently pulled her trigger finger back without yanking or jerking it, she will hit the target where she was aiming. They repeated the one shot sequence all ten times until she was out of bullets.

Then Carl patiently checked the weapon to see if it was indeed cleared of any rounds inside the chamber and the magazine empty as he told her to holster it slowly. He wanted to make sure Heather knew how to inspect the weapon to make sure it was empty or unloaded before she put it back in her holster. It was an important step to make sure the gun was never assumed empty.

Together they walked up to the target and check it out for a grouping of the rounds fired. Carl counted six holes and that meant she missed the target four times. He told her she was doing well and not to be discouraged. It would take practice and they had plenty of time and bullets to practice with today.

Both were wearing ear plugs and the sound of the bullets inside the makeshift indoor firing range made a loud noise that was not soundproofed to the outside. In all reality, if someone was standing outside the bunker, they could have heard the shots fired and know that somebody was firing a gun somewhere close to where they were standing.

After shooting off about fifty rounds of 9mm bullets, Heather had a lot more confidence than she demonstrated before she started this exercise. Her demeanor was perkier and it looked like she was having fun doing it.

At the last check she fired nine out of ten inside the center mass circle and one round hit the head. Carl assumed that the head shot was accidental but he wasn’t really sure that was the case. He remembered that he told Heather the only way to kill a zombie is to shoot it in the head and kill the brain.

The next round of practice included another fifty rounds but first, they would take a break and pick up all the brass that had been strewn on the ground of the hollow making sure they picked it all up and put it all back in the plastic container they came out of. All fifty brass casing were found and retrieved. It was a good way to make sure all was done with care and caution.

Altogether, Heather fired one hundred and fifty rounds that day. What was most important was her confidence in using the gun and the ability to hit what she aimed at.

They accomplished both very well and Carl was satisfied that after a few more practice sessions, she would be an awesome shooter even for a beginner, she was better than average.

Now it was time to eat and they went to the guest bedroom to get the kid that was playing there alone but staying safe. She was startled a little when the door opened up when she saw Heather her face brought a quick smile.

“Time to eat, baby, time to eat” Heather said.

He stood before the freezer, selecting what was going to be his meal for this occasion. His worn-out blood shot eyes moved carefully over the stacks of delicatessen meats down to the frozen vegetables, down to the breads and pastries, the fruits and ice cream.

He picked out two slices of bologna, cheese on wheat bread and a glass of ice cold water to chase his food down with. Spreading the ketchup and mustard on the bread, he chomped on the sandwich as if he was starving.

Having taken what he wanted, he motioned to Heather and the kid to get what they wanted out of the refrigerator or freezer. It was a moment of silence as they pensively picked the items they wanted to eat.

Carl left the room and entered the relaxation room to turn the TV on. Still chomping on the first sandwich Heather and the kid followed and brought a bag of potato chips in and laid them on the table. His stomach was in knots for some reason.

He felt uneasy and was nervous; more so than ever before. Getting up he slowly moved across the floor to the other side of the room and leaned against the wall. There were no windows, no clear blue sky to look at and all that he knew existed out there was the giant granite rock he had built his bunker under.

The confinement was taking a toll. He was getting stir crazy and having Heather there only made it more complicated. He decided that he needed to step outside and get some fresh air even though the skies were still filled with thunder and lightning and raining cats and dogs just like the day before.

Walking outside the front entrance he turned towards the cliff edge of the bunker. Up above the dark black clouds were moving swiftly as the darkness was depressing. He pictured his favorite scene of being on the beach and the clear blue sky above him. Sea gulls were shrieking out loudly as they floated in the wind under their wings.

Looking down, he saw an old and twisted trunked tree that hung over the edge somewhat and ready to fall down. Its branches were once dry and rotted but this monsoon El Nino rain has revitalized the tree and causing it to bloom green leaves and moist branches.

For some reason, even with all this wind around the cavern, the branches of the gnarled and twisted tree faced upward towards the sky, the exact opposite direction it was before the rains came and the droughts were so common.

For a moment, Carl heard some background sounds break the mountain side silence and noticed a set of feminine footsteps headed his way.

Heather walked outside the door and saw Carl standing there at the edge of the cliff. She walked over to him and asked him softly if there was something wrong. “No, nothing is wrong,” said Carl. “I am sorry I walked out on you that way but I really needed some fresh air and go outside.” Shyly, Carl turned away and looked at his watch.

Suddenly, when she spoke, Carl’s attention was drawn on her presence. His eyes were first focused on her face as her clothing was getting wet and saturated, starting to reveal her sexy figure. She was wearing shorts and revealed her shapely curved buttocks as the wind pressed her clothing against her skin.

He remembered her the first time he saw her and how he thought she would win a wet tee shirt contest hands down. Well, he was thinking it again as she stood there in the rain and not even wearing a bra as her hardened nipples protruded the clothes she was wearing.

He was getting sexually excited. He couldn’t hide it so he walked away from her and told her he wanted to be alone for a while to sort things out. Heather, not willing to take that as an answer softly said to Carl, ”Look, I know this has been hard on you and I know we have invaded your privacy and space for a long time now but I really do appreciate you helping us out and taking care of us.”

His eyes were again moving to his watch as he said to her, “It’s okay, I have enjoyed your company and its no bother. I am glad we found each other that night because it is a real nightmare out there and I am not so sure you would have made it if you hadn’t have found this place by accident.”

He avoided eye contact for a reason. Her beauty was beginning to attract his passion and desires. For a moment, he noticed her friendly smile, her gentle face and soft and smooth but full lips. Her breasts, now fully revealed by the figure-hugging of her clothing, appeared full and naturally round as the nipples were standing erect from the chill of the cold outside damp and moist air.

It was damp and muggy, and the humidity made them sweat even as they were standing in the torrential rain. Carl was aware of sex and how it drove a man crazy being so close to a woman who smelled like honey. He found her presence a lot more than exciting being so close to her and not daring to touch her like he wanted to do.

His loins were burning; his penis was hard and showing as the hardness was revealed through the khaki shorts he was wearing. Under any other circumstances, Carl would have been mortified or even slightly embarrassed if Heather would have noticed the bulge in his shorts but it didn’t seem to matter to him at the moment. He was sweating inside and out and the air was hot and humid; so hot he could hardly breathe.

Suddenly, Heather bumped and pressed against me. By choice rather than a necessity, she chose to make the first move at this moment. This increased my racing pulse and brought him to an unlimited stage of excitement that he hadn’t felt or reached for years even if he was masturbating, it didn’t feel like this.

Within a moment, the rain stopped falling as they tumbled to the wet and soaked ground embraced and kissing each other passionately. Before Carl realized it, she was completely naked and on the edge to make a passionate move as Carl was trembling with passion and desire to engage in this sexual feeling.

The ground was naturally cold but to be honest, the ground didn’t matter as the senses were on fire and neither the rain nor cold ground effected their nudity and desire to have taken him to the ground and swallow him up with a lustful passion. She was having her way with him and he wasn’t fighting any of it at the moment.

Lips locked and tongue probing for a deeper carnal sensation, Carl felt he was at the edge of insanity and enduring heavenly pleasure. She squeezed his hand and pressed against him even tighter. He could feel her breasts crushing against his chest. He could feel one of her breast churning against his hand. He felt her hand reach for his cock and as she did he let out a scream of pleasure and longing for more as his soul was set on fire.

Carl’s cock was hard, so hard it was burning and it was hurting. It had been so long since who knows when but he wanted her to keep on pushing against him and light his fire. Her lips were softly nibbling on my ear as I submitted my whole body to her advances as I twisted a bit to get even closer wanting to enter her vagina and feel the hotness inside her. The encounter was so blissful, it was pure carnal desire.

Her nipples rubbed against his muscular forearm as her hand brushed against the tip of his penis. Entangled, twisted and soaking wet, the whole thing just exploded. For a moment, his hardened cock jerked uncontrollably and jetted a copious discharge of kept in desire.

The cum went everywhere and they didn’t care. The sticky stuff covered his leg, her belly and all over her legs as well. Carl’s pent up feelings, exploding and releasing every desire to show his feelings for her, wouldn’t stop spouting as there was so much kept inside him for all those years, he finally let it all out with a woman that had absolutely and utterly unashamed seduced him in the dark and cold rain and gave him an experience of his life.

For a moment later, when the two eyes met and the moment calmed down a bit, you could have heard a pin drop. Carl stopped breathing and went into a state of shock and shame. He was hoping that Heather didn’t regret what she had done as he felt ashamed he let it happen.

He hoped Heather didn’t go ballistic or was too disappointed in his sudden reaction caused by a guilty conscious and as she giggled nervously about the way they had just made love in the pouring rain, and laying naked on a thistle of leaves and needles, she burst into tear and hugged him as she tried to sob out an apology for taking advantage of his weak moment.

Carl gently pulled her into his arms and tried to comfort her. Heather muttered some softly spoken words and as she calmed down a bit, she began to explain that whatever happened was something that was inevitable to happen because of their proximity and time spent together inside that bunker.

He kept telling her softly, “Heather, listen to me, there is nothing to be ashamed of and I could have stopped it from happening under the circumstances but I wanted to make love to you too.”

The moment he felt sure she was sort of pulled together enough to get up and go back into the bunker, he said to Heather, “What we did was natural and nothing to be ashamed of.”

Fumbling to get dressed, and reaching down to find their wet and soaked clothing, Carl came up with Heather’s panties and started to laugh. Feeling her smooth red colored silky panties, he said to her, “Strangely, they are drier than the rest of their clothing; hmm wonder how that could have happened.”

The faint and indistinct sight of her nakedness and the feel of touching her on her breasts and other gentle parts of her body almost got Carl as hard as he was before this tumble to the ground started to feel embarrassed again.

This particular moment was best to be forgotten. Carl didn’t know enough about Heather to tie on top a stronger bond than they already had. Getting dressed and putting on his wet clothes he tried to help Heather with her clothing fumbling them a couple of times as his hands were visibly shaking. As soon as they walked into the front door, they departed quickly and departed hastily into their respective bedrooms. Time for a shower and come back to face the music was one thought on Carl’s mind. He wasn’t sure what Heather was thinking.

Although the dim light of the woods was enough to conceal them from being seen by others if they were in close proximity, their screams and yells of passion could have been heard for at least a quarter mile or so.

A flashback in Carl’s mind gave him a peek of a perfectly rounded pair of breasts and a smooth buttocks stripped of all clothing would forever be ingrained inside his head. The shower cooled them both down a bit.

Standing by his bed and thinking of the carnal and lustful episode that had just happened not more than an hour ago, he laid his head on the pillow and stared at the ceiling. His eyes were wandering the walls as his mind wouldn’t let go of the image of Heather laying there naked.

How could he have been so fortunate to find this wonderful, beautiful poised creature with the mature figure of a young woman; her full sized breasts high and tight showing a proud and perfectly rounded figure showing no signs of having a boob job or any other artificial or surgically implanted breasts enhancements and in fact, because they were not enlarged or enhanced they were naturally attractive and one of her most impressive features. .

There were no signs of sagging thighs and her firm buttocks revealed her athleticism as they were firm and muscular with a slight tan that was wearing thin due to the copious amount of rain and lacking sunshine. Having that kid didn’t harm her figure at all; in fact, Carl suspected it caused her to work even harder to return her figure back to the state it was in before she had the child.

Her slender ankles firm hips and curved oh so provocatively ass was a man’s delight to watch when she walked her confident gait across the room. Carl didn’t know how she kept her crimson colored lips so moist and naturally full with the tip of her small wet tongue so actively seeking internal pleasures.

Her face, her heavenly soft and lovely face, free of age lines or crow feet around her eyes as she must not have been a day over thirty years old. But what got Carl’s attention most what her confident gaunt, a haunted quality that prompted the mind to never forget seeing her walk that was uniquely contained and pleasurable to watch. Lastly, her honey smell enticed him to look into her eyes, bright expressive brown eyes but when it rained, it was her breasts that caught his eyes.

It was time to get serious about the situation they were in and how to manage it more closely as they saw no hope to ever escape this torrential rainfall that had trapped them somewhat on this man-made mountain and now dealing with a relationship that had become a little more complicated than it was once before.

The El Niño Legend

Part IV

Souls recognize each other by vibrations, not words or so it seemed between Carl and Heather. There was not much to talk about as they were both dealing with stressful things in their lives. The fact that the cavern was very comfortable, dry and not damp from the outside pouring rain, made staying there the most logical plan.

Oh, definitely thinking of what he had witnessed earlier in the day with dead bodies floating and stores looted and empty of real people, he thought of zombies most of the time.

The image of those undead mindless creatures plodding along in slow motion with stiffness explained by the motor skills and lack of voluntary neutron control created a little bit of concern but hardly anything close to panic. Carl was focusing on their futile efforts to escape the inevitable and that would be a confrontation with these zombies in order to survive this El Nino disaster.

What caught Carl’s eye was their rigidity and inabilities to function like a human being since they can’t think or rationalize how to attack a human being except for a straight forward advance towards the heat of their bodies and overcome their efforts to survive or resist injuries by their bites anywhere on their body to spread the virus.

Carl realized the only strategy to survive them was to reduce their numbers as fast as he could as the only way these zombies could get to you was by overcoming the human with large numbers of mass mindless fanatical hordes of these toxic beings.

Longevity was the key to surviving. This meant that all the resources Carl had gathered to house himself and his guests would have to be replenished as time would drain them of energy and resources.

He felt committed to help Heather and her kid. He had to hold off the zombies and keep them safe as long as she was staying with him. He was sure she was counting on him to keep her and her child alive or uninfected.

That meant that everything they did outside the bunker had to be done quickly and elusively swift to keep ahead of these slow moving zombies. Yet, on the other hand, Carl knew that the more the rains poured down, the more flooding and disasters causing the virus to spread and creating more undead being around them. Sooner or later, they would have to leave the bunker and find an alternate place to hide.

Inciting a sense of social responsibility and acting on his protective instincts he felt committed to fight these mindless person and knew that the more he took out, the more the living could count on him to help them survive. He had to be resilient in nature and think like a soldier with plans to attack and counter-attack these creatures. It was essentially the only thing to do.

Opening up his laptop and googling the subject of confronting zombies he found some good information on how to deal with this phenomenon.

As it stood right now, he knew the undead were not near his cavern yet, so the number of zombies within his own proximity was not as many as there were in the valley so he didn’t have to worry about his bunker right now. He was sure he was right as he was tracking and inspecting his bunker and the surrounding areas almost daily via camera and short walks.

Regardless, he knew there would be nobody there to help him fight off any undead attacks as the military or cops did not deploy or spread their resources out in the rural areas as the threat levels were minimal. Keeping in mind that as long as he practiced caution, the infestation would not spread in a moderate to high scale here.

Since he had not seen or heard of any undead appearing near his bunker, it was still the ideal place to stay. The worst case scenario would be a small group of the undead approaching his dwelling and those could be managed effectively with the weapons he had on hand. If this remained the case, he could possibly ride out this zombie situation.

He didn’t want Heather and her kid fall victim to this threat. Since it had been more than forty eight hours since they were exposed to any zombies, he knew neither were infected by the virus and gave him a sense of comfort that all he had to do in order to survive this ordeal was to keep them clean and safe.

It was time for him to sit down with Heather and explain some of the rules they needed to follow while they were threatened by these undead down the valley. He knew there would be times when they had to find or restock their resources and get from one place to another safely. Thinking that the main roads would be risky, he was tempted to take shortcuts or safer ways to get to and from these places without being noticed or attacked by zombies.

Although shortcuts are remote and unpopulated where help was hard to find, it was an option if nobody knew they were up here on the mountain side hiding. He told Heather they needed to stick close together and never drift apart. He told her they had to travel lightly and use caution each time they went outside for even the slightest reason.

Learning more about zombies and how to avoid being attacked or attracted, he told Heather whenever they were out there traveling, it was important that they did not try to draw any attention to them by making noises or excessive body movements. Since they rarely went out at night, they knew it was safer to travel during the day so they could see their attackers.

Thinking it was better to go to town and find some other resources that would give them an edge he said that the quieter they traveled, the safer they were and since Heather had the kid in hand at all times, and so they eliminated bicycles as a means to move as their silence would accommodate traveling.

He knew the supermax F250 was noisy and large but he explained he needed the truck for safety reasons as it was a dependable mode to travel through the mudslides, had a large hauling capacity and had large gas tanks so they wouldn’t run out of petro if they had to take the long way home unexpectedly but most of all, this off-road vehicle had a high amount of extra space for cargo/extra passengers, and a fairly high amount of protection, but they need gas and the sound of the engine will attract the undead so a tradeoff was necessary to accommodate their needs.

Since Carl had been trained in survival tips, it came natural to him but Heather never received such training so in terms of survival, she had to learn some new ways to get around.

The biggest and most important rule to survive was to stay together. Never leave each other and work or attack as a team.

The second rule you needed to learn was the code or morality this situation brought to each situation as in a zombie apocalypse these rules change and are very different than in a sane and orderly society.

Carl explained to Heather that surviving this ordeal depended on their ability to stay alive and kill the undead on sight. There was no right or wrong here; there were no choices to prevent being infected or bitten. The code of survival also included things you have never done before, mostly killing and stealing to ensure your survival and the survival of others.

In order to save time going down into the valley and pick up food or resources, the two of them had to communicate closely and plan to take an inventory of important things they needed. There was not time to shop and thus they needed to plan what supplies they have, what more was needed and then ration them up a little bit to stretch them out over time.

Since it was just the three of them, they could manage the food and other supplies easily but Carl feared there may be survivors on the way who needed help and if they were not infected, brought back to the cavern and keep them safe so these rules to ration had to be used to prevent other survivors from hoarding or tamper with whatever they had stored away right now.

Carl said that although it wasn’t a problem, he was the person in charge. He made all the major decisions and he took the chances to keep them alive. This was in the best interest for her and the kid as it was easier to follow than make decisions.

He told Heather that if they picked up survivors this rule had to be followed unconditionally and without exception and that she needed to back him up at all times as the leader.

He warned her of troublemakers; people who resented taking orders and that if there were survivors who acted like this, he would reject helping them to prevent them from taking over and neglecting the needs of themselves over others.

Often other people may not be so easily convinced or persuaded and therefore might force the hand of the leader to do something desperate and maybe cruel. This may include killing the people questioning them or abandon them to set an example.

Last but definitely not the least of their problems if they found survivors was the kind of persons usually called to be bible thumpers who preached day and night. They cause trouble as their words spew violence and hate that may not be necessarily the best way to survive and stay under the radar.

Carl emphasized that religion was all right and nice to accept but when in a group, religion can split a group up quicker than anything else except fear. Fear was the number one reason for breaking up a team or group of uninfected people. The fear of becoming infected drove them over the edge most of the time.

Since Heather always held her kid’s hand or kept her close by her, wandering off was not a problem. However, Carl explained that if they pick up survivors with children, someone has to watch them at all times. They have to make sure that they don’t go anywhere without permission or having an adult with them to keep an eye on them to keep them safe.

Finally, Carl explained that the biggest threat out there was to be attacked or overwhelmed by the undead and be bitten. He explained to Heather that once the coast was clear and they were safe, it was important that they closely examine each other for bites.

Solemnly he said, “People who are bitten become infected and unfortunately, this means we will need to put them down with a bullet in the head. It will be even more difficult for friends and family if people they care about is bitten. Unfortunately this is unavoidable and it's best to let somebody other than friends or relatives put them down. “

Gladly, Carl knew this would not be the case between Heather and her kid as they were working hard to remain safe and clean. It was more a concern of any survivors found along the way that Carl mentioned this.

Since Carl had constructed the bunker against the undead or any other natural disaster, he knew the importance of having such a fortification against these invading zombies. Even with the safety of the bunker, he had a contingency plan to escape if for some reason the bunker failed them.

He told Heather, never panic and turn your back on any of these undead or any survivors we might find along the way. It was at this time that Carl handed her an empty pistol and showed her how to use it.

Softly he put the gun in her hand and taught her how to hold it, control it and then how to fire it. He told her he had set up a mini firing range in the hollow to have her practice shooting the firearm with good aim and good target practice. He assured her this they would do in the next day or so.

When it comes to survival, it is important to have a good weapon on you and know how to use it properly should you ever need to while traveling or defending your base. Carl had previously taught Heather that if she needed to kill an undead, she had to aim for the head. Shoot it or hitting it with something hard would kill the infected brain.

Now it was time to explain why certain weapons were more effective than others. This El Nino created zombie apocalypse has brought about harsh rules and means to survive. What would ordinarily be illegal or unjustified in a normal and orderly society, has been released to be moral and legal under the self-defense doctrine of survival.

Carl explained to Heather, “One must be armed with multiple weapons ranging from guns to machetes. For running out of bullets is a reality since the numbers are so extreme and large under a full scale zombie attack so you must have blunt impact weapons or edged blades to deal with close hand to hand combat situations.”

He said to Heather, “The biggest thing is that you'll need something to keep on you is something hard or sharp that is capable of cracking a skull or taking off the head. Close range weapons are good, but it is preferred to get one with some range between you and the undead. Some bladed weapons are excellent and more preferable than blunt weapons.”

Their close proximity and intimate touching was turning Carl on as his long and almost forgotten sexual urges had been buried for so many years, he suddenly realized there was a sexual awakening going on at the time.

His sexual feelings were being aroused and the touching and eye contact was leading him into a sexual healing of some kind that he hadn’t have felt for a very long time.

There was definitely a passionate connection happening here. It was almost like that time Heather sat next to him on the couch when the generator acted up and he had to go fix it. Almost forgetting that moment, he was sure this resurrection of his passionate side would lead to something he really didn’t want to engage in as he was focused on surviving.

Falling in love was something that had escaped Carl over the years. Every morning he would get up and deal with life the best way he knew either alone or with someone he had met or engaged a conversation with leading to quiet times and often sexual feelings if the mood was right.

Since the zombie attacks began, he never even thought about having sex or any feelings of sex except that first night Heather stayed in the guest bedroom and the mirror broke causing him to get excited and running to the bedroom to see if she was all right.

Even as attractive Heather was, he had resisted the urge to touch her but there was no denying he had been stimulated by her feminine presence and behaviors. Inside of him, although deeply hidden were feelings that were waking up in a most exciting manner.

Thinking about getting down or laying down with her was not yet an obsession. However, standing next to her was like standing next to a hot oven. The heat radiated immensely as she stood there or walked by him with her graceful body.

Even though he denied he needed some loving, he didn’t want to offend or create an awkward situation or relationship with her and the fact she had a six year old with her complicated the matter somewhat as there was rarely a moment of privacy.

No matter which way he turned, he knew that he couldn’t hold this passion inside him too much longer. He had to admit it to himself, the feeling was getting stronger and stronger and in all reality, somewhat distracting.

Regardless, it made him feel like a man and something or someone like Heather was good for Carl as she made him feel like a man and a protector of those days when chivalry was deserving of knighthood and gentlemen.

No doubt he needed some sexual healing by dealing with this sexual feeling deep inside; throbbing his organ between his loins and heart to a become more than active like ever before. He remember the first night he saw her in the darkness with teardrops falling from her eyes. He thought she was so beautiful, it temporarily stunned him.

For a moment, Carl’s emotional stability was leaving his senses as he didn’t know completely what or who he was dealing with there in the pouring rain and standing there, vulnerable to the rain and fearful of anyone who was near her.

Since that moment, he has failed to grab this feeling and take control of the situation. In fact, he has ignored the fact she was an attractive woman, living under the same roof as he was and nothing was happening between them.

Being of both body and mind, he knew that sooner or later, he would not be able to resist the temptation to touch her.

She smelled like honey and he was sure her lips were as sweet as the wine she preferred to drink instead of his rum and coke when he offered her a drink to warm up after being out in the cold.

Because he had been living all alone, he had learned that procrastination was better than masturbation and left the feelings alone as he focused on the storm outside but now he could feel a storm surging inside of him every time he looked at her. He knew he was losing ground quickly, he sensed that she was feeling it too.

He needed a distraction to get back on track so he forced himself to go to the kitchen to grind up some left over foods left on the plates and do the dishes. In the trash can there was an accumulation of what must have been at least five days of garbage.

Hastily, he decided to bag the trash and take it to the hollow where he had a sealed storage container for trash to take to the city and dump in one of those large commercial dumpsters located at the various shopping centers or fast food places.

While in survival mode, he decided to use paper plates and plastic utensils too and dispose of them like the trash keeping it easier to ensure the place was kept clean with minimum effort to do the housekeeping. Something he has neglected a little since Heather and the kid moved in and caused the place to be more unorganized but he wasn’t complaining.

He knew that sooner or later, he would have to ask her personal questions related to her showing up at his bunker that night and what it was that kept her hanging around the bunker instead of going back down into the valley and finding her family or friends.

He sensed she was running away from something or somebody but he decided that time would give them an opportunity to talk about her circumstances and find out what was best for all of them under the current El Nino created disaster and the zombie invasion that was below them there in the valley.

Going to his bedroom to lay down, he heard Heather’s voice taking to the kid. Trying to get her out of his mind, he turned the TV on and watched the world news that was showing how the El Nino was destroying communities in Southern California and how the country and state had resorted to martial law to handle the lawlessness and violence created by the zombie invasion.

Clips of military troops and National Guard sentries guarding the airports and other transportation outlets like train stations and bus depots made leaving the area hard for many survivors as it was certain that the number of undead had multiplied since this calamity began and the week is barely over.

The West Coast was under panic and fear was causing people to do strange and immoral things. Stealing and looting was common and there was nothing the army or soldiers could do to keep it from  happening as those looting, stealing and killing were armed with guns and defending themselves in any manner they felt justified leaving much horror on the welfare of the innocents and survivors.

He checked the weather report and found another Pacific El Nino generated thunderstorm sitting calmly off the shore and waiting to come in and wreak its havoc on the already flooded valleys and highways near the coast and now stretching farther inland than ever before.

In fact, the news stated the flooding had stretched all the way to Palm Springs and moving eastward towards Arizona. It seemed the water was following the path of Interstate 10 and moving eastward in a slow crawling manner leaving all survivors on high ground or drowned by the surging waters.

Every morning was cloudy mixed with rain and excessive downpours. There appeared to be no end to this apocalyptic event. Storm after storm, rain after downpour kept coming and people were being evacuated but many could not reach the higher ground without taking casualties or exposing them to the dangers of the large hordes of zombies traveling in the same direction as those evacuating.

Carl knew it was just a matter of time that he would encounter such a horde or a group of survivors asking for help and shelter. The time was late already and he needed to fall asleep as tomorrow he had to do some work on his truck to make sure it was dependable and ready to go whenever they had to escape or make a supply run down into the valley.

The truth was he couldn’t sleep. He had Heather on his mind. Slowly he got up and sat in the relaxation room on the couch trying to read. He had made himself a whisky and soda instead of a rum and coke this time around. He needed something stronger to soothe his mind.

He held the cold clear glass up and picked up a book. The book was human psychology and boring but never the less, a book to read when he was restless. From the hallway came a voice, saying, “are you awake Carl?” It was Heather. Turning the music down a bit so he could hear her better, he said, “Yeah, it’s me, I’m just sitting here reading a book.”

The two dogs lifted their heads as Heather walked into the room. They rarely barked unless it was something unusual or somebody who they didn’t trust. They were very temperamental but good guard dogs. After all, they were there for the same reason or thing – survival.

It was times like this the bunker was solid and almost soundproof. It kept the pouring rain noise outside and the comfortable ambience of silence or the music pleasant and soothing. Carl’s jazz selection was that of Sade, his favorite jazz and blues singer. Her voice put him at ease and gave him the right mood to relax and enjoy himself for the moment.
